Surround yourself only with people who will pull you higher. It’s just that life is already full of those who want to drag you down. Oprah Winfrey

It is a well-known fact that we become similar to those people, who are around us. Doubtless, the easiest example probably to think about this subject is sport. While surrounding yourself with someone whose skills are better, will quickly push you to train harder, run faster or perform better. Training with professionals makes you grow.

This is the thing that I learned during the years of my sports career. I used to perform for Ukrainian National Team in show jumping. Consequently, I was going through ups and downs, which have built an impressive level of endurance inside me. Today, I am not afraid of taking one step back in order to take to forward. This ideology of training with someone who is better and has more experiences than I had at that time was reflected in some years into my professional side of life, corporate to be more precise. The concept of being next to those who are more fortunate and prosperous than you generally translates and reflects to your personal and career-wise.

Stay encircled by the winners and you will become one in a time to come!

A genuine question will arise in your head about what should I do to apply this concept in my life? Well, here are some tips from me of how you can start today.

Firstly, it is essential to say final goodbyes to those colleguaes and individulas who are constatnly distracting your mental routine and well-being in the corporate world. Everyone has someone who finds itself in all the thime in critical state, even if he does not in reality ot intentially tries to dramatise their lives. These personalities cannot drive you to achieve more, rather than bringing you down with them.

Life is a tough thing — and we all have enough of difficulties to go through. Moreover, your job industry will not allow you to win every time, as there will be always more than enough obstacles of acquiring the desired goal. It is an undeliable fact that during those moments, we all aspire to have somebody durable and mature next to us, those who will be able to evaluate, drive and force us to try again. In this regard, Confucius had a point:

“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.” — Confucius

Encircle yourselves with those who will never think anything bad about your failures, you need those who can cheer you up and support you in any step you take. These are the ones who nourish you with their energy and assist you not to break down! Our lives are too short for the waste of energy, negative emotions and wrongly driven people. No time for pessimism, think positive always!

Secondly, look for those, who are smarter than you. These could be your peers from the corporate world, academics or overall those who are experienced.

With the distinguished Head of International Relations and World Politics Department — Prof. V. Manzhola, Kyiv, Ukraine, 2019

Multiple entrepreneurs crave to be the smartest people in a certain society on every topic. In case of being the smartest, you are literally limiting yourself. Duly noted by Jim Rohn, who once said:

“You’re the average of the five people you spend most of your time with.”

By this regard, it is essential for all of us to underestimate the significance of the company we keep. We demand societies, whether they’re coaches, mentors, family memebers or just trusted friends, who challenge us and push us to be better.

The right circle of influence raises the bar, helping us to set new, loftier expectations of ourselves. Oftentimes, we don’t know what we are capable of until we see others achieve. For instance, it’s not an accident that companies like Prudential plc, Legal and General Group and Aviva are so popular and prosperous among achievers in the UK’s insurance sphere. When we surround ourselves with positive, successful people they consciously (and subconsciously) challenge us to be our best selves.

Thirdly, build “real life” relationships with those who have already accomplished your goals! Take experience from them! The actual social media distorts the general understanding of what success is! Highly successful people are generally willing to share what it really takes to make things happen. They have the ability to help you learn from the mistakes they’ve made along the way and the “tricks and tips” to help you reach your goals as quick as possible. Seek out leaders of your field and get some real face time with them!

To conclude, in case if you are driven by idea to become a better version of yourself I challenge you to review, rethink, and cull through your social media and real life “friends” and find the right people and media content that will actually help you get there.

BE BRAVE AND DREAM BIG!
